Institutions serving the deaf, blind, and low vision students in Colorado face allegations of sex abuse and misconduct.

If you or a loved one attended the Colorado Center for the Blind or the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind and experienced sex abuse or misconduct, you may have a legal claim.
The Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, located in Colorado Springs, paid out $1.4 million in recent years to settle claims that two students were sexually abused while attending the school.
The judge in the case pointed out the failure of school officials to address the problem, including ongoing lack of supervision and not reporting sexual assault to the police in court documents, reported The Gazette.

The Colorado Center for the Blind, located in Littleton, has faced similar allegations.
The Center is a world-renowned organization that helps blind and low-vision individuals learn life skills at workshops and summer camps. Leadership ignored concerns and buried reports of sexual misconduct committed by its teachers and employees for decades, according to an internal investigation conducted in 2021 by the National Federation for the Blind.

The investigation revealed that school leaders may have failed to properly vet teachers and counselors who had been accused of sexual misconduct before working for the Colorado Center, according to The Colorado Sun. In addition, the organization may have failed to report sexual misconduct to the police and suppressed reports of assault and abuse made by participants.
If you experienced sexual assault or other misconduct while participating in a program conducted by the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind or the Colorado Center for the Blind, you may be able to make a legal claim.
