In an investigation published in August, the Philadelphia Inquirer revealed that 41 children had been sexually abused over 25 years at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health facilities.

Devereux is a non-profit residential care facility specializing in care for children with intellectual disabilities, mental disorders, and trauma with facilities located in thirteen states.

​

The lawsuit against Devereux indicates one woman was only 8 years old when she says a number of staff members raped her and subjected her to other sexual abuse.

​

Some sexual abuse cases against Devereux have already gone to court, including one that led to a jury verdict for the plaintiff victim. This case was valued at $60 million and many more are expected going forward as victims come out from behind their shadows now.
